Discover Japanese mythology

Somebody on Facebook asked for help. They needed somebody to review their new book. Since it was about Japanese mythology, I gladly accepted. I suffered from a bad case of pneumonia at the time. Reading this book made it bearable. It gave me great joy.Though I already knew some of the sstories I enjoyed reading them. All the legends were told shortly and in a nice, poetical language. And, there were beautifull illustratons! I love it when books have illustrations!I think that this book is great for somebody new to wonders of Japanese mythology. Those more familiar to it, might be interested in the explanations of cultural backround.

Yumi and the Nightmare Painter.

I got a great book for my birthday in November. Yumi and the Nightmare Painter by Brandon Sanderson. It's so cute! A great read for everybody who likes Japan. Though it doesn't take place in Japan, it is inspired by Japan, especially anime. The author has admitted that he used the anime Your Name as inspiration and it shows. Still, Sanderson has added plenty of his own very original stuff. It is far from being a copycat. I was taken by surprise more than once. People from different worlds switch places. They learn from each other not only their occupations but different ways of thinking and of course, they fall in love.

Bookwalker

I can't put into words how much I love this book by Carsten Henn.❤️ The name of the book in Deuch is Der Buchspazierer. It should be Bookwalker in English. I read the Estonian translation, of course (Raamatujalutaja).

Eye of the world

This is the first book of the Wheel of Time series. I started reading this series years ago but got only to the fourth book. No, it was not bad, on the contrary, I loved it. Just new and exciting books came in. Now I decided to start again reading it. I reread the first book and was surprised to see how many sweet little details did I miss the first time - beautiful language the subtle way the author hinted that there was something going on between two characters without making it too obvious, et cetera. I guess that the first time, my focus was on the interesting plot and cool world...

Piranesi

I had seen people talking about Piranesi in some Facebook reading groups and it seemed interesting. Besides, look at this cool cover! So I bought it for myself. And I don't regret it. So beautiful, so mysterious, so unique. I can't tell you much about it because I don't want to spoil it for you. But I can tell you that I liked the main character. My first impression of him was that he was a man led by logic and not feelings, and that was how he was thinking of himself as well - a scolar. But the more the story went on, the more I saw how sensitive he actually was. How he loved this bizarre world he was living in, how much compassion he had for every creature, even the bad guy, and how he wanted to treat even strangers as friends. I'm glad he got a happy ending.

The well of ascension

The well of ascension is the second book in Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn series. The world Sanderson creates is fascinating, though a little dark.

Shadow of the fox

I absolutely adored❤️ the Shadow of the fox series by Julie Kagawa. Great humor, a fairytale land of Japanese mythology⛩️, adventures, and sweet love. And the main character was a kitsune!!! 🦊 The last book took a bit grim turn with many people dying, which was a bit of a surprise considering the first book's light tone, but even that was not completely dark. Overall I had a blast reading it. 📖

Wereworld

I just finished reading this book today. I think it will go into the YA category with the farmer boy turning out to be a lost prince trope, but the story itself was far from simple. I really liked the yummy plot twists in this book. Writers, surprise me, and I will love you! And I really liked the characters! ❤️ And the world was cool!
