I like to watch some videos on Writing on You tube. One advice that I found was that it is good to write some random scenes just for the sake of practicing without the need to make it sellable hindering. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to practice writing those scenes, but I decided to give it a try. So, I took the first thing that grabbed my interest in a folklore-related Facebook group and just tried to write a scene about it. So, here it is. I translated it for your entertainment.
In the night's darkness, the trees stretched out their gnarled branches, like spiders their legs, ready to seize those who strayed from the winding road.
The rustling of tree leaves sounded like an evil whisper to the man trying to dispel the gloom of the forest a little with the help of a tiny lantern stick. He flinched when he heard a resounding hoot, but then realized it was just an owl. Calmed down, the man pushed forward. He had no time to panic. His wife was waiting for him in a small cabin on the other side of the forest.
Thinking about her, the man did not even notice the dreads of the forest. In front of his eyes was only the path leading him towards home.
He heard another sound. This time, it was a shrill scream echoing in his head. The man grabbed a sword. That was no owl, but the devil knows what.
Looks like I can write some spooky stuff if I want to. Horror is just not my thing. This might not be the last scene-writing exercise that I do, so stay tuned. And, comments, comments, comments, please!
