So, you want to write a book? Great! But where to start? Start with a spark! That spark can be anything. It can be some curiosity that piques your interest. It can be something you think is underrepresented in fiction. It can be a cool idea somebody else has poorly executed making you think you can do it better. Anything counts! Don't expect to have an entire book downloaded to your brain. Expecting too much at this point might smother this little spark. Those small idea sparks are everywhere, you just have to notice them. As Brandon Sanderson has said, ideas are cheap. So, let's pick them up!
My spark was kitsunes. I was fascinated by them and wondered, why I can't see them in literature. In anime, yes but not in books. Actually, I have found books with kitsunes later, but they are still rare. So, there I had a spark of an idea, book with kitsunes.
Today's exercise: Find your spark, your starting point. Play with your idea, and nurture it. You don't know, how big it might grow.
And that's it for now! I will talk about how to grow the spark in the next lesson.
