Bus trip

Today we were driving to Tartu. Had a nice chance to discuss possible options of my book with my wife. Her advice was really beneficial. After all, I had some hard time choosing what was going to happen.

In a way I had written myself into a corner. I had a plan, a problem and solution - yet when I had written down the problem I started to doubt if that was the best solution.

Well, I had started to find some other possible solutions besides the one I chose first. When I described them to my wife she agreed my first one seemed best. Yet best for us, not for the characters. Every one of the four whose opinion did matter would have had their own preferences, so making us happy would have made three of them unhappy.

So, I decided to see which one of the solutions would be the most likely one. I thought the characters would talk this situation through and then find an option that is optimal. Thus I made a table with points assigned by every character to every solution, and my wife was really helpful with personalities she would know better.

The result was a bit shocking. The characters chose the solution most unlikely to me personally. I mean, why would they... I mean, none of them would have had this one as their first choice. Yet it really wasn't the most unappealing one to anyone, so it would really have been possibility to all of them. Not the most pleasant one, perhaps, yet still a choice.

Yeah, the characters can bully their authors...
